Dave Milner returns to the Belmont coaching staff in 2008 as assistant cross-country & track coach after three very successful years guiding the distance runners at Brentwood High School. He brings to the program over 25 years of competitive running experience and eight years of coaching experience. After attending Belmont for two years, Dave graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland in 2000, majoring in Psychology & Exercise Science. While at Cortland, he was fortunate enough to find himself under the wing of legendary coach and physiologist, Dr. Jack Daniels, who Runner's World magazine dubbed the World's Greatest Running Coach. After graduating from Cortland, Dave coached at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, WA, before returning to Nashville in 2002. He then served as a graduate assistant at Belmont from 2002 to 2004 and helped guide the Bruins to their first two Atlantic Sun conference titles. He then took over coaching duties at Brentwood High School. In his three years at Brentwood, his teams swept the regional championships each year and the boys' team reached their highest finishing position ever at the State Cross-Country Meet. He was three times voted Metro Coach of the Year. On the track, his boys won two straight state team titles and four individual titles. He also coached two of the six fastest prep 2-milers in Tennessee history. Dave is a USA Track & Field-certified coach, serves as the Long Distance Running Chair for USATF-Tennessee and he still runs competitively in races ranging in length from 1 mile to the marathon. |
