List of ITA Academic Honorees

Skillman, N.J. – The academic achievements of the Belmont men’s tennis team were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as they announced their Academic Awards for the 2008-2009 school year.

The Belmont’s men tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic team for eighth straight year. The Bruins, who finished with a team GPA of 3.56, was one of 39 teams honored in Division I and one of three Atlantic Sun Conference squads among the list of schools. To be chosen for this honor, a squad must have a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale) and all team members must have competed in at least one match during the 2008-2009 season.

In addition, five Belmont tennis players earned the ITA’s Scholar-Athlete Award. Belmont’s five honorees were: Rodrigo Amaral, Renato Antun, Felipe Cirne Lima, Fausto Rocha, and Javier Rodriguez. In all, 16 Atlantic Sun men’s tennis players earned the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award. To earn the Scholar-Athlete Award, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.50 and been enrolled at the school for two semesters.

During the 2008-2009 season, Belmont posted a record of 14-8 and reached the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament. Their 14 wins were second most by a Bruin squad in the Division I era.
