Hermitage, Tenn. – The Belmont men’s golf team maintained their steady play from Monday in Tuesday’s final round to capture the team championship at the Big Blue Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee State at the Hermitage Golf Course in Hermitage, Tennessee. It was the program’s eight team title overall in the Division I era and first since April of 2006 when they won their own Belmont Intercollegiate.

In Monday’s final round, the Bruins shot an even par round of 288 for a 54-hole total of 856 to win the title by four shots over second place Murray State. Tennessee Tech and UT-Martin finished in third place at 870. Their 856 score was fourth lowest in the program’s Division I era and the lowest score shot by a Belmont team since the 2006-2007 season.

Belmont saw all five of its golfers finish among the top-25, with two in the top-five. Senior Danny Amundson shot a two under par 70 on Tuesday to finish in third place with a score of 212. It was his second top-five finish of the season. Junior Scott O’Brien placed one spot behind Amundson in fourth after shooting a 70 as well to finish at 213. It was O’Brien’s first top-five of the 2008-09.

In addition to those two top-five finishers, junior Stuart Ashwood tied for 12th at 217, while junior Simon Marshall and junior Gaylon Cude placed in a tie for 22nd at 219. It was a career best finish for Cude. Sophomore Dan Smith, competing as an individual, finished in 46th place at 224.

The Bruins are now off for nearly two weeks. They will be back in action at the Atlantic Sun Championship held April 20-22 at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
