Alex Renfroe Named to Basketball Times All-District Team
April 27, 2009
NASHVILLE, TENN. - - Belmont University men's basketball senior Alex Renfroe (Hermitage, Tenn.) added to his impressive list of postseason accolades as he was named to the Basketball Times South Region All-District Team.
Earlier this month, Renfroe was named to the 2009 Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America Team, as well as earning Mid Major All-American and Atlantic Sun Conference Most Valuable Player honors from CollegeInsider.com.
Renfroe, who became just the second Bruin named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, ranked in the Top 7 in the league in seven categories: first in assists (5.12), fourth in field goal percentage (.548), fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.41), fifth in steals (2.09), sixth in defensive rebounds (5.03), seventh in scoring (16.2), and seventh in rebounding (7.2).
Moreover, the 6-2 floor general led the Bruins in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocked shots and field goal percentage - believed to be the first college basketball player since Tim Duncan in 1997 to lead his team in all five categories.
Renfroe was also one of just four players nationally - along with Florida's Nick Calathes, Duquesne's Aaron Jackson and Idaho's Mac Hopson - to average at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists per game.
Moreover, Renfroe was the lone Atlantic Sun Conference representative and one of only 10 mid-major players named to the Basketball Times' annual honors list.
Calathes, UT-Martin guard Lester Hudson, and Kentucky standouts Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson joined Renfroe on the South Region All-District Team.
Basketball Times selected three national teams and seven regional all-district teams.
