Andy Wicke Named to NACDA Scholar-Athlete Team

CLEVELAND, OHIO - - Belmont University men's basketball senior Andy Wicke (Hendersonville, Tenn.) has been named to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Scholar-Athlete Team.
This marks the latest in a long list of national honors for Wicke this year. Earlier this season, the 6-2 guard was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District and All-America teams. Most recently, Wicke was named to the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-Senior All-America Team at the Final Four.
Team captain for the 2008-09 Bruins, Wicke is scheduled to graduate next month with honors in his chosen major of environmental studies and minor of business administration. He will attend dental school at the University of Louisville, beginning this summer.
Wicke recently concluded his Bruin career with 1,236 points - good for sixth all-time on Belmont's NCAA-era scoring list.
Wicke also finished his career second in Atlantic Sun Conference history in made three-point field goals with 303.
In 2008-09, Wicke established single-season Belmont records for minutes played (1,056) and steals (70).
He also was part of 88 Belmont victories and four postseason appearances - including three NCAA Tournaments - over his decorated four-year career.
This marks the fourth time a Belmont men's basketball player has been named to the NACDA Scholar-Athlete Team, joining Justin Hare (2007, 2008) and Adam Mark (2004).
Wicke was one of only 10 men's basketball student-athletes in the nation named to the team.
Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees was required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials.
He must have reached junior athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible) and have completed at least three academic semesters/five quarters at the nominated institution. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games listed on the nomination form.
