Alex Renfroe Named to NABC All-District Team
March 9, 2009
KANSAS CITY, MO. - - Belmont University men's basketball senior Alex Renfroe (Hermitage, Tenn.) has been named to the 2009 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Team.
This marks the latest in a series of honors for Renfroe following one of the top individual seasons in Belmont history.
Last week, the 6-2 point guard from Hermitage, Tenn. was named 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year and was selected to the 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Tournament Team.
The left-hander ranks in the Top 10 in the Atlantic Sun in a staggering eight categories. Renfroe stands first in assists (5.03), fourth in field goal percentage (.547), fifth in steals (2.13), sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.36), sixth in defensive rebounds (4.87), seventh in scoring (16.0), eighth in rebounding (7.0) and 10th in offensive rebounds (2.17).
In his last outing of nine points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against East Tennessee State, Renfroe was one point shy of the first triple-double of Belmont's NCAA era.
Renfroe is one of only two players in the country to lead his team his scoring, rebounding, assists and field goal percentage. Moreover, he is one of only five players nationally - along with Florida's Nick Calathes, Arkansas' Courtney Fortson, Duquesne's Aaron Jackson and Idaho's Mac Hopson - to average at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists per game.
Renfroe was one of 10 players selected to the All-District Team for District 3. The first team comprises of VMI's Chavis Holmes, Liberty's Anthony Smith, Campbell's Jonathan Rodriguez and East Tennessee State's Kevin Tiggs and Courtney Pigram.
Joining Renfroe on the second team are Stetson's Garfield Blair, Liberty's Seth Curry, Radford's Artisom Parakhouski and Gardner-Webb's Grayson Flittner.
Renfroe is eligible for consideration for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America Teams to be announced Saturday, April 4.
