Roger Idstrom is entering his 10th season as an assistant coach for the Belmont Bruins.
In addition to daily on-the-floor duties, Idstrom also coordinates video exchange, charts drill performance, works with the Curb Event Center in-house video crews, oversees academic matters and fulfills various administrative responsibilities. Coach Idstrom also supervises the individual workouts of Bruin redshirts and transfers. Shane Dansby, Alex Renfroe, Jordan Campbell, Keaton Belcher, Scott Saunders and Jonny Rice are among the Belmont nucleus of players that Coach Idstrom shaped. This past season, he aided the development of redshirt freshmen Brandon Baker and Adam Barnes.
Idstrom's tirelessness proved indispensable as the Bruins reached the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) in 2008-09, the Bruins' fifth postseason appearance in the last six years. The Louisville, Ky., native also served as the men's basketball strength and conditioning coach during his first two years.
Prior to arriving at Belmont, Idstrom spent two years at Gardner-Webb University. In that span, the Runnin' Bulldogs compiled a 36-21 record, including a 25-5 record in 1999-2000. During that campaign, GWU reached the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time in school history.
Before GWU, Idstrom coached for two years at Wabash Valley College, one of the nation's top junior colleges. The Warriors finished 30-6 in 1996-97 and ranked sixth nationally. Five sophomores went on to earn Division I scholarships. While at WVC, he coached future Belmont Bruin Davey Upton (2000).
From 1992-1996, he helped lead Montreat College in its transition from junior college status to four-year status at the NAIA level. Idstrom also spent a year each at UNC Asheville and Mars Hill.
Very active in the Belmont community, Idstrom is the faculty/staff advisor for the University's Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Idstrom graduated from Mars Hill College in 1989 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications and public relations.
Idstrom and his wife, Jennifer, have twin boys Dane and Logan. The family resides in Nashville.
