Softball Excited for Conference Play Posted by Dawn Thoni, softball junior infielder March 25, 2009 10:00am
Conference is almost here!
We haven't been playing that much recently here. Between cancellations and weather issues, it seems us Bruins can never get out to play.

But this weekend is going to be a different story. We are going to get our conference play underway! We have UT Martin today, and then Jacksonville and North Florida on Friday and Saturday. I know we are all anxious to get out there and prove ourselves in our difficult conference. Even though we have gone through some rough patches in the past couple of weeks, I know we will be able to bounce back and give everyone a run for their money. All we need to do is get out there, play our game, and be prepared to come out with four conference wins! I know we can do it! Go Bruins!
Rough Week for Softball Posted by Ashley Byers, softball freshman pitcher March 19, 2009 12:50pm
This past week or so has been a really rough week for the softball program. We started off the year great, and came out with a lot of wins against good teams. In the past week, we faced our toughest competition all year, playing the University of Tennessee.

They are ranked 8th in the nation for softball and showed us why when they beat us in five innings. We have had a really tough time this past week also because our starting pitcher, Devon Schmidt, got in a car accident last Monday morning. We are really grateful that she is okay, although she cannot play for a while because of injuries that happened during the crash. We are down a pitcher, and that means that the other pitchers and the whole team needs to step up and attain the position player we have lost. We came out Tuesday playing Alabama State for the second time this year. We could not gather up the hits and runs to prevail with wins in either of the games losing 4-0 and 4-2. I am determined that our team will persevere and overcome the obstacles we have faced lately and come out on top once conference time starts (next week). Our team just needs to stick together and work hard and do the best to our abilities.
SB2k9 No Regrets (WHOOOOT) Posted by Gerard McMahon, Belmont Marketing March 11, 2009 2:50pm
Whether it's the fact that basketball season has come to a close (perhaps), our baseball and softball teams are on the road, it's down to 50 degrees outside again, or just that it's Spring Break here at Belmont, the office has been extremely quiet all week.

After watching baseball bring home a 5-3 victory in gorgeous record-breaking 80-degree weather yesterday, we're confined back inside the office walls today. Despite the one-day 30-degree temperature drop, I'm officially calling an end to the winter. Langdon said I'm allowed to do that. You can't have SB2k9 in the winter, can you? So it must be spring. So with that said, I'm going to try to go exclusively baseball/softball/tennis from here on out.
Just had something else I was going to say; lost my train of thought. Baseball travels to Tenn Tech today (right now, in fact) then has ETSU this weekend. Payback. Softball has quite the road swing - through Knoxville this evening and then on to Winthrop for four games in three days. They won't be home again until the end of the month. Tennis, meanwhile, will be outside this week playing UNF and Jacksonville. I love it.
Spring is here. Warm weather sports shall be played. See you out at the fields (unless you're still on Spring Break...)
Tournament Starts Today! Posted by Gerard McMahon, Belmont Marketing March 5, 2009 10:50am
Well, actually, the tournament started yesterday with the Lady Dolphins victory over the Lady Bisons and ETSU's win over Stetson, but for all intents and purposes, Belmont's run begins today.

At 2:30pm, to be exact. Let me tell you, my nerves are working a little bit right now. We played two tough games against Mercer during the regular season - they'll be a tough draw. Game's not televised, so you might as well come out to Lipscomb's Allen Arena and catch the Bruins in action!
If you can't make the afternoon game, however, our women follow at 6pm against Campbell. Like the men's squad, the women gained the three seed. That game will be on CSS.
Here's hoping for a pair of Belmont basketball wins today and moving on to more college basketball tomorrow!
Go BELMONT!
Softball Team Transitioning Posted by Hannah Brenzie, softball freshman third baseman March 3, 2009 11:30am
During the past months of great transition into the life of a college athlete, my parents and I have had many discussions on the development of a team. My father has spoke to me about the four stages that every team must go through in order to reach it's full potential.
They are as followed:
1) The Forming Stage
2) The Storming Stage
3) The Norming Stage
4) The Performing Stage
The Forming Stage, as the title implies, is the initial months of bringing the team together. Unfamiliarity and apprehension surrounds the team as they attempt to prove their capabilities.
Next, comes The Storming Stage, which is the most difficult stage to surpass. By this time, the team members have judged the usefulness of their teammates, groups amongst the team have been formed and the question of whether it is all worth it has emerged. This is the stage that is "full of drama" and many teams stay complacent and remain in this unfortunate stage.
The Norming Stage is where the first signs of team unity and success surfaces from under a difficult and trying past. Teammates begin to trust each other's dedication for the team and their commitment, which creates the beginning of a universal bond among the team.
The last and final stage is The Performing Stage and this is the most triumphant of all. Now, there is complete team unity, allowing the team to be successful against the competition. The team has a sense of determination and fight that will challenge all competition that is faced within the season. Their field is no longer a softball field, but a battlefield.
As I mentioned before, this transition into the life of a college athlete has certainly been a very trying one, but now that the season has begun, positive results are beginning to be seen. Though the team has been through the first two stages, I believe that, as of right now, the Belmont Softball Team is at the final stretch of The Norming Stage. We are all beginning to mesh and become a true team and I believe once a few more victories are "under our belts", we will be in The Performing Stage, creating a much- remembered history for Belmont University.
Go Bruins!
