Academics is one of the cornerstones of Belmont University's Department of Athletics.  Since the move to Division I in 1997, Belmont student-athletes have excelled in the classroom and in competition.  Belmont student-athletes regained the title of Atlantic Sun All-Academic Champions during the 2007-2008 academic year for the seventh time in six years.  This past year 70.3 percent of its student-athletes earned a grade-point average of 3.0 or better during their season of competition.  In the NCAA Official Graduation Rates Report, Belmont is consistently near 80% graduation rate, which exceeds the rate of 70%.  Belmont student-athletes have the highest graduation rates amongst the student-athletes in the Atlantic Sun Conference with 88 percent.

Academic Policy Statement

Belmont University's Department of Athletics strives to offer a balanced academic and athletics program that encourages student-athletes to develop life-long skills.  Specifically, the department seeks to:

·         Recruit only student-athletes with the potential to succeed academically and athletically;

·         Maintain the athletic eligibility of every student-athlete;

·         Graduate student-athletes;

·         Protect the academic integrity of the university; and

·         Comply with all rules and regulations of the university, the Atlantic Sun Conference and the NCAA

As NCAA Division I competitors, Belmont student-athletes face the challenge of juggling multiple responsibilities and obligations, including practice and competition, road travel, strength & conditioning workouts and, most importantly, academic demands (both in and out of the classroom).  To help our student-athletes balance this taxing load and achieve the most rewarding college experience possible, Belmont University Athletics have developed extensive academic support programs and services available to all student-athletes, including fifth year/post-eligibility athletes.
